For intravenous administration, the recommended dosage is 150 mg per kilogram of body weight for the first dose, then 50 mg per kilogram and finally 100 mg per kilogram for subsequent doses.

In patients who have ingested a large amount of acetaminophen, prompt treatment with NAC can significantly reduce the risk of liver damage and failure. Early administration of NAC has been shown to be effective in preventing liver necrosis (death of the liver cells) and reducing the severity of liver damage.
